Confidential stock information that is circulating on social networks has operators baffled from the local market in Argentina ahead of the presidential primary elections to be held next week.

The posts, which include information regarding entities carrying out certain trades and the timing of orders, began appearing on social media on Thursday. Screenshots of some 233 files are circulating on Twitter — the social media platform Elon Musk renamed X — and WhatsApp, among other networks.

The data was stolen from the CNV regulatory body, said the president of the entity, Sebastián Negri, in a telephone interview. The information represents regarding 10% of the total data stored by the regulator, Negri said.

The CNV does not know the origin of the theftbut plans to issue a statement and expand on a complaint already filed in local courts for a hack that occurred in June.

The hacker group that attacked the CNV published the information it had stolen, following not receiving the ransom payment

The leak comes as the nation prepares for primary elections on August 13, where voters will choose presidential candidates who they are competing to cap inflation at 115% and manage an economy headed for recession.
