Unforgettable Love Story: From Ronquières Festival to Happily Ever After

Nothing, or almost nothing, predestined Mathias and Noémie to meet. He works on the site of the Ronquières Festival, she was a festival goer. After chatting for a while on the internet, the two Internet users make an appointment: they will meet on the site of the inclined plane and judge the chemistry between them. No promises, no particular expectations. And yet, four years later and a baby, the two lovebirds are regarding to say “yes”.

Ronquières is also that. Meetings, friendly or romantic, which give birth to beautiful stories. “We thought it would be easier to meet on neutral ground: if we realized that it didn’t lead anywhere, Noémie would go back to the festival site with her friends and I would just go back to work”, explains Mathias Pirrara. “The day we met, I was the one who spotted her. She was wearing one of these hats given out by the event partners.”

A “beautiful hat” message later, the two friends had a drink together… And never let go. For them, the date of August 3, 2019 will remain synonymous with new life. “She went on vacation right following the festival but we quickly found each other. I was someone who didn’t believe in love. My life in the events sector didn’t leave me much time to think regarding love. I saw myself living my life alone, single and childless. I thought it was easier not to report to anyone. And then finally…”

The young couple quickly put their relationship to the test. “We were faced with the health crisis. We confined ourselves together, telling ourselves that if we survived this cohabitation, we would be on the right path (laughs)! Our son, Virgil, was born on April 29, 2021. It’s a bit like the “first Ronquières Festival baby”. And he follows in his dad’s footsteps: at 6 months, he lived his first festival (in covid version, Editor’s note), helmet on his head. He is a born festival-goer!”

This August 19, the young couple will officially engage. And it is none other than Bertrand Hamaide, one of the organizers of the festival, who will take on the role of wedding witness. “The circle is closed, in a way!”, smiles Mathias. This Friday, his future wife and himself “commemorated” their meeting by having a drink in front of the bar which had marked their meeting a few years earlier. A great way to stock up on memories before the big celebration.
