What for Edwin Arrieta Arteaga was a tourist trip turned into a tragedy for his family. The surgeon, a native of Lorica, Córdoba, was murdered on the island of Koh Phangan, in Thailand. The main suspect is a friend with whom he shared a couple of nights at the hotel where he was staying.
According to a report by the Thai outlet Kahosod English, the authorities captured Daniel Sancho Bronchalo, who would have murdered and then dismembered the 44-year-old Colombian doctor.
It all started on July 31, when Edwin Arrieta Arteaga arrived on the Thai island to spend several days with Soncho, a 29-year-old Spanish man. The two men shared in restaurants and tourist areas of Kih Phangan. However, the Colombian disappeared and, in fact, his friend was the one who reported the disappearance.

The authorities began the search, which was initially unsuccessful, since they might not find him. But everything changed thanks to some garbage collectors, who found a black bag with intestines and a pelvis in the Koh Phangan garbage dump.
The finding was reported to the Police, who arrived at the site and following an inspection found another bag with legs. The remains were taken to the island hospital where they determined that it was the Colombian doctor.
“They were deposited in a black garbage bag and covered with a second layer of green plastic bags contained in a separate compost bag. They were placed in the cement yard of the Koh Phangan Municipal Solid Waste Disposal Center, Moo 4, Koh Phangan sub-district,” Thai authorities detailed.

The Police captured Daniel Sancho Bronchalo because he was the last person he shared with Edwin Arrieta Arteaga. Although the Spaniard tried to deny responsibility for him, the authorities collected enough evidence to incriminate him in the murder.
On security cameras it was recorded when Daniel Sancho arrived at an establishment and bought several strange items for a person who is not a native of a place. He bought a knife and plastic bags, rubber gloves, sponges, and cleaning fluid.
Another piece of evidence involving the Spanish citizen was found by the police when they examined the room, they discovered stains of blood, tissue, grease and hair in the sewer.
Mourning in Cordoba
On family social networks, friends and acquaintances of the surgeon Edwin Arrieta Arteaga have mourned his death. They ask the Thai justice that the fact does not go unpunished.
Deiby Palomino, a friend of Arrieta, left him an emotional message on Facebook: “Peace in the tomb of Edwin Miguel Arrieta Arteaga. His unexpected departure without the opportunity to say goodbye leaves an impossible-to-fill void within his family, for whom he saw and worked. His personal imprint and his impeccable professionalism marked his prestige and respect”.

Arriera Arteaga lived in the El Recreo neighborhood of Montería, the capital of Córdoba for decades. Her job was to perform aesthetic procedures and plastic surgeries in the same city of residence.
