The statements of the Minister of Economy in the caretaker government, Amin Salam, in his appeal to the State of Kuwait to rebuild the wheat silos that were destroyed by the Beirut port explosion, sparked widespread discontent in Kuwait.

In response to what Salam said, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Kuwaiti National Assembly, Abdullah Al-Mudhaf, declared, “Kuwait is a country of institutions and the funds of the Kuwaiti people are not managed” with the stroke of a pen.

Al-Mudhaf pointed out, “Our relationship with the brotherly Lebanese people is not the subject of testing or evaluation, but in response to the Lebanese Minister of Economy, Kuwait is a country of institutions, and the Kuwaiti people’s money is not managed (with the stroke of a pen) or by phone call.” He added, “The Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry must immediately clarify the truth of what was stated in this statement and hold the negligent, if any, accountable.”

The deputy in the National Assembly, Saud Al-Asfour, commented on Salam’s statement, saying that “for such matters, which actually happen with a “stroke of a pen”, we submitted a while ago with a number of deputies an amendment obligating the fund to obtain the approval of the National Assembly before approving foreign loans.”

As for the MP in the National Assembly, Jarrah Al-Fawzan, he affirmed that “what the Lebanese Minister of Economy mentioned needs clarification and an urgent response from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and this is considered a transgression once morest the country of institutions (with a stroke of a pen),” adding: “We will support legal legislation that requires the approval of the National Assembly in granting, and I will direct On Sunday, parliamentary questions regarding the development fund, financing, and the Lebanese minister’s statements.

And Salam had said on the eve of the third anniversary of the port explosion that he had sent a message 3 weeks ago to the Emir of Kuwait through the Lebanese Foreign Ministry, appealing in the name of the Lebanese people to rebuild the wheat silos, announcing that he had requested this matter for the people of Lebanon and not for the government, “because bread is for the people and it is not permissible for an Arab country to be left without Strategic stocks.” He added, “We all hope and hope that, within a certain period, we will receive an answer from Kuwait, because the funds are there. I contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and I learned that there are funds in the Kuwaiti Development Fund, and today, with the stroke of a pen, a decision can be taken to build Lebanon’s silos.” in Beirut and Tripoli.
