Trump does not want a new indictment in court

After the publication of further charges in the document affair, former US President Donald Trump applied not to have to appear in court to read out the further allegations. This emerges from a court document published on Friday (local time). In it, Trump also makes it clear that he also pleads “not guilty” with regard to the new allegations.

The competent federal court must approve his request to stay away from court. Because Trump has already appeared in court to read the original indictment, he has the right to make such a request.

The Republican was charged in the document affair in June because he kept government documents, some of which were top secret, at his Mar-a-Lago property in Florida and did not return them when requested. He was accused of illegally storing highly sensitive information from his time as President (2017 to 2021). The 77-year-old and his assistant Walt Nauta were also charged with conspiring to obstruct the investigation. Both pleaded not guilty. Trump appeared in court in Miami in mid-June.

In the past week, the original indictment was then expanded to include further allegations. Trump is said to have also tried to use employees to make material from surveillance cameras disappear in Mar-a-Lago. In addition to Trump and Nauta, there is now a third defendant, Carlos De Oliveira, another of the ex-president’s employees. The three tried to “alter, destroy, disfigure and hide” potential evidence. Special Counsel Jack Smith is leading the investigation.
