It’s always busy in the United States. Here are five interesting news for tourists – from the capital, through the “Sunshine State” and Alabama to the west coast.
Washington/Saint Petersburg – A new indoor amusement park for Lego fans is opening just outside Washington. The “Lego Discovery Center” is located in Springfield in the US state of Virginia, around 20 minutes by car from the capital. The tourism agency of the Capital Region USA announced that the target group were families with children between the ages of two and twelve.
For example, there is a Duplo Park for small children, while older children will probably explore the Ninjago area. You can also see the most famous sights of Washington made of Lego. The park has twelve themed areas and is said to be fully accessible from August 14 – in the days before you can only access it with special “First to Play Days” tickets. It is advised to buy tickets online before visiting.
Works by female artists in the capital
In Washington itself, the “National Museum of Women in Arts” will reopen in mid-October following a two-year break for renovation. As the name suggests, works by female artists play the leading role in the house. At the start there is the exhibition “The Sky’s the Limit” to see, with expansive sculptures and installations.

According to the tourism agency of the capital region, the complete renovation cost the equivalent of more than 60 million euros. The museum now has 20 percent more exhibition space and more flexible ways of presenting the artworks. From October 21, visitors can see for themselves.
Immerse yourself in the work of Salvador Dalí in Florida
In Saint Petersburg, Florida, the Salvador Dalí Museum has a new museum space called the Dalí Dome. It promises visitors a “360-degree light and sound experience,” writes the region’s tourist office. As part of the new exhibition “Dalí Alive 360”, digital images are “dynamically projected from the ground to the top of the structure” in the large dome.
Alabama: Special Perspective on Slavery History
The stories surrounding the last known slave ship to reach the United States in the 19th century: that’s the focus of a new museum in Alabama. The “Africatown Heritage House” is located in the district of the same name in the city of Mobile, as reported by the US state tourist office.
More than a dozen ship parts are on display, as well as a model of the ship Clotilda, which arrived in Mobile in 1860. Visitors can also learn regarding West Africa, the crossing and landing, and the Africatown community, said to have been founded by Clotilda survivors in the early 1870s.
Slavery was outlawed in the United States in 1865 following the end of the American Civil War.
Surfing is also exciting physics
California and surfing go together. It is only logical that there is a “California Surf Museum”. This is located in the coastal city of Oceanside between San Diego and Los Angeles. The museum is all regarding surfing. For example, the historical evolution of surfboards is presented with a variety of boards. Brand new is a multimedia exhibition called “The Science of Surfing” regarding the connections between science and surfing. The tourism agency Visit California draws attention to this.

The exhibition then also deals with topics such as wave energy, tides or surf breaks. Because behind the successful riding of a wave there is not only courage and skill but also a lot of physics. dpa
