Police have their hands on a man who escaped from federal prison in 2018 and was living a life of luxury in a $1.5 million mansion in Florida.

Allen Todd May, 58, was arrested Monday in Fort Lauderdale. The police noticed that he was wearing a Rolex watch and driving a Mercedes-Benz car worth $125,000.

Authorities managed to locate the fugitive following an anonymous call was made reporting that the man had taken on a new identity — that of Jacob Turner, a wealthy man who frequents the West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale areas, according to what the New York Post.

The citizen who allegedly notified the police saw a photo of May on the website of the Palm Beach Daily News while the latter attended a fundraiser last June.

“Very flashy. He displayed his wealth. Whether he obtained this wealth legitimately or not is another question. However, he was very good at flaunting his wealth while trying to stay hidden,” said Katrina Crouse, deputy chief U.S. Marshal of Colorado, in an interview with Fox News.

Allen Todd May had been sentenced to 20 years in prison for committing securities fraud. However, he escaped in 2018, when he had nine years left in his sentence.

The latter managed to escape justice for almost five years. A few leads had led the police to believe that he had visited his mother in 2022. But he might not be found before obtaining information regarding his new identity.

“It was huge. This man, due to his history of fraud, was very good at avoiding capture,” Crouse said.
