Chris Jericho talks regarding working with Sting for the very first time.
The Ocho opened up regarding his current rivalry with The Icon during a recent interview on the podcast AEW-some. The two met face to face on last Wednesday’s edition of AEW Dynamite and fans are eagerly awaiting where this rivalry might potentially lead.
Jericho begins his interview by reminding the hosts that he and Sting had never crossed paths in their long career together in the industry.
This is the very first time in our two careers, which span 70 years combined, that either of us has stepped into the ring together. Never. Not for a showdown, not for a battle royale, nothing. We’ve never touched or been face to face in a pro wrestling ring before.
Jericho then reveals that he and Sting had an off-camera reunion in 2021 during the pandemic during a special farewell for a longtime professional wrestling show manager.
A few years ago there’s a guy named Keith Mitchell, he was the director of Dynamite for a long time, he ran Nitro for years, he ran World Class with the Von Erichs, he retired in 2021. We had a farewell ceremony for him in front of one of Jacksonville’s small crowds during the lockdown. Sting was in the ring and they asked me to come to the ring. It was the first time Sting and I were in the ring together. It was off camera, off television.
It was during Mitchell’s farewell that Jericho decided he wanted to do something with Sting when the time was right.
I remember thinking and talking to him, “This is crazy. We never did anything. When the time is right, we must do something. The time had come on Wednesday for the first-ever showdown, Sting vs. Chris Jericho.
Shortly following meeting Dynamite, Jericho and Sting exchanged blows on Twitter to stir up the rivalry ahead of their tag team showdown later this week.
