This weekend, Valentin Foubert managed to qualify for the two final rounds of the Courchevel Summer Grand Prix. An unexpected performance for the Savoyard still learning within a French team in reconstruction.

Valentin Foubert is only at the beginning of his apprenticeship as a top athlete. But like his performance last weekend during the two summer Grand Prix organized in Courchevel, his progress can only be promising for a French ski jumping team in reconstruction. Two qualifications in the final round in two days for his first participation in a summer World Cup on home soil.

“It was a little unexpected this regularity,” rejoiced Nicolas Dessum, the new coach of the men’s group. In front of his whole family, the member of the Courchevel sports club did not tremble for his big first at a high level: “It was a pleasure to compete in front of everyone, the atmosphere was great. But I hardly had any stress. While at the European Games in Zakopane in July, I was shaking, noted the one who took 37th place in Poland. You have to have a cool head to perform, the best in the world train for that. The mind makes 50% of the sport. »

“You might say that I have come 20% of the way”

An encouraging state of mind for this young jumper, who is still “only at the beginning of his work”. Of rather discreet appearance in the midst of the excitement that reigned in the arrival area of the Savoyard station, Foubert is nevertheless described by his trainer as “an artist, quite funny, he’s a teaser” . And if maintaining a regular training rhythm is not easy, given the Savoyard’s age, he has a good margin for improvement: “He has a lot of quality as a jumper in terms of flexibility and explosiveness and of feeling in flight. We see that he is gradually getting closer to the best, he tells himself that he is not working for nothing, ”book Dessum.

Precisely, the main interested party knows all that remains to be done to try to be able to compete with the best on the circuit: “Physically, I do not think I have yet passed a course, but mentally a lot. We can say that I made 20% of the way. “But if the road is still long to perform, not enough to discourage the Savoyard: “work hard, have fun” (work hard, have fun in French), philosophized Foubert.
