said Ese Edogyan, chair of the jury World Booker PrizeThe novels that reached the long list shocked us, made us laugh, and made us cry, and they are very worthy novels to reach this list.

Over the past seven months, the Booker Prize judges have read more than 160 novels, and we have selected 13 novels that deserve to be on this list.

The head of the jury, Esi Edogyan, said: The selection of the novels that made it to the long list relied primarily on their freshness, by disrespecting new voices, and by shattering traditional beliefs.

All 13 novels shed new light on the meaning of existence in our time, and they do so in original and exciting ways, their range is wide, both in theme and form: they shock us, they make us laugh, they fill us with anguish, but above all they stay with us. This is a list to excite, challenge, delight and surprise.

It is noteworthy that the World Booker Prize announced in the British capital, London, the novels that reached the long list in its session for the year 2023, which are:

The House of Doors is a novel written by Tan Tuan Eng

Western Lane by Chetna Maru

The members of the Booker Prize jury said, in this session: We read 163 novels over the course of seven months, and at that time whole worlds opened up to us. We are transported back to the early 20th century, to the vibrant streets of Lagos and the squash courts of London, to the blackest depths of the Atlantic, and to sultry Ireland where the terrifying loss of rights comes as a stark warning.

The shortlist of six novels, selected from the long list, is due to be announced on September 21, and the winner will be revealed on November 26. The winner will receive £50,000, while each of the two shortlisted novelists will receive £2,500 and a special edition. from their book.
