In the first half of 2023, Austrian Airlines (AUA) increased its operating result (EBIT) year-on-year from minus 110 to plus 15 million euros. Sales increased by 57 percent to EUR 1.064 billion. The subsidiary of Deutsche Lufthansa spoke today of a “tailwind for investments”, the growth course is also reflected in 400 new employees since the beginning of the year.

In the second quarter of 2023, AUA’s sales increased by 39 percent year-on-year to EUR 664 million. “Due to the high passenger demand and a continued high occupancy rate, the second quarter of the year ended with a result of 88 million euros,” emphasized the former state airline.

Airline boss Annette Mann said in a broadcast: “After three tough years, we are clearly in the black and are now working towards a very good annual result.”

The positive half-year result is mainly due to the further increase in passenger numbers. AUA flew over 6.1 million passengers in the first half of the year, an increase of 47 percent. The available seat kilometers rose in the same period by 27 percent to 11.6 billion, with the flights of the Austrian home airline being occupied at an average of 80.0 percent, AUA calculated.
