If you don’t know exactly what you want and start your order with “um” in the “Rimini” ice cream parlor in Gaggenau in Baden-Württemberg, you may be served an “um” ice cream.
The creation for the undecided is particularly popular on social networks. He also gets a lot of encouragement from his customers, says Alessandro Cimino, who owns the ice cream parlor in the town in the Rastatt district.
He invented the variety because almost everyone says “um” first when it’s their turn. So did a student who arrived at the gelateria with his school class in mid-July and constantly “imitated” because he mightn’t make up his mind.
“Looks like iceberg lettuce”
“The line kept getting longer – and the idea was born,” says Cimino. He created a white chocolate milk ice cream mixed with pistachio crunch. “Looks like an iceberg lettuce,” he says. It is so tasty that “Um” is currently the best-selling ice cream in his ice cream parlor behind vanilla. “Children and adults like it,” he says.
Cimino, who supported his brother Giuseppe two years ago when he took part in the Ice Cream World Championships in Bologna, already has a lot of experience with imaginative creations:
At the time of Corona he created the “antivirus” ice cream from ginger and orange, now “um” came to mind. What was intended as a gag is now to remain on offer in the long term: “‘Um’ we’re not taking it out of the range anymore,” says the creative entrepreneur, who is now known throughout Europe.
