Dominic Thiem starts in Winston-Salem
While Dominic Thiem is fighting for valuable self-confidence at the Generali Open in Kitzbühel these days, the North American hard court season is already casting its shadow. There was good news for the Austrian from Winston-Salem.
Because Thiem received a wildcard from the organizers for the ATP 250 tournament, which will take place from August 20th to 26th. In addition to the 29-year-old, Borna Coric, Pablo Carreno Busta and Jan-Lennard Struff will also be at the start in Winston-Salem.
Thiem has served twice in Winston-Salem in his career so far. In 2012 he failed in the first round of qualifying to Ernests Gulbis, last year the Lower Austrian reached the round of 16 following victories over JJ Wolf and Girgor Dimitrov. In this, Thiem had no chance once morest Jack Draper.
Thiem wants to get the finishing touches in Winston-Salem before the US Open (August 28 to September 10), which will take place immediately following the event in North Carolina. In New York three years ago, the Austrian won his only Grand Slam tournament so far.
