The second row of the XV of France Romain Taofifenua will be absent for at least “three weeks” due to a muscle injury, the staff of the Blues said on Wednesday, just over a month before the start of the World Cup, this situation is worrying.

“We had a little problem with Romain Taofifenua, who had pain in his hamstring. This morning, he was taken out of the group to do an evaluation. He is continuing his preparation with us: the objective is to reassess it within three weeks”explained Bruno Boussagol, health manager of the Blues.

“He is taken care of to be accompanied as soon as possible so that he can return to the field. We give ourselves a little time to let the area heal”, added the physiotherapist. The Wallisian player was therefore not present during the day’s training in Marcoussis, in Essonne, on the eve of the announcement of the list of 23 players called up to face Scotland, the first match of preparation for the World Cup, which will take place from September 8 to October 28. However, he attended the session from the sidelines, his right thigh bandaged. At 32, Romain Taofifenua has 43 selections for the France team.

Before the clash once morest the All Blacks at the opening of the 2023 World Cup, the XV of France played four preparation matches: once morest Scotland (August 5 in Edinburgh, August 12 in Saint-Etienne), once morest Fiji (August 19 in Nantes) and ahead of Australia (August 27 at the Stade de France).
At the World Cup, the Blues will face New Zealand, Italy, Uruguay and Namibia in the group stage.
