If Ozempic is a drug approved by the federal agency Health Canada, it is because it brings many benefits for people with type 2 diabetes, and not, for “losing pounds”.

Dr. Julie St-Pierre, pediatrician at the MGill University Health Center, came to correct the situation regarding the drug “Ozempic”, widely publicized in recent months because of its misuse.

“We have to do it first and foremost for the right reasons. Not necessarily to lose pounds, but for your health,” warns the specialist.

Several people then use it to lose weight, not recommended by the majority of experts.

“People who find this drug to lose weight, there is a real problem, because they often do it without follow-up and there, we can see eating disorders appear,” she adds.

These molecules are extremely strong and regularly show side effects, such as diarrhea or inappetence.

It is not uncommon to walk around and see advertisements promoting this drug here in Canada. “Companies play their cards this way: talk to your doctor,” explains the expert.

Social networks also represent a risk for people with low self-esteem.

“TikTok, Instagram, have a very negative effect on the perception of the body, and there, it connects constant concerns at the level of the brain of the person.”
