According to the water authority, the freighter is still stable at its current anchorage, regarding 16 kilometers north of the Wadden Sea islands of Ameland and Schiermonnikoog. No decision has yet been made regarding moving to a port, a spokesman for the water authority told the German Press Agency on Wednesday. The car freighter, which is around 200 meters long, has loaded around 3,800 cars on eleven decks, including 500 electric cars.
The fire broke out on the Japanese ship just over a week ago. The nearest major seaport is Eemshaven right on the German border. Another option is to move to Wilhelmshaven in Germany.
