A study has just shown that so-called isometric exercises and cardio sessions help reduce blood pressure.

In June 2023, Santé Publique France revealed that 17 million people suffered from hypertension in France. But the most worrying thing is that 6 million of them do not know that they suffer from this disease. However, increased blood pressure can cause many symptoms and complications.

Among other things, the patients who suffer from it are more prone to headaches, shortness of breath, and palpitations. But high blood pressure also increases the risk of stroke and heart failure. Researchers are therefore trying to find ways to reduce blood pressure in a natural way.

In this area, a recent study conducted by Canterbury Christ Church University in Kent provides a simple and very effective solution. In fact, they studied the benefits of physical activity on lowering blood pressure. And their results indicate that certain specific exercises would be very effective without requiring intense effort.

The Beneficial Chair and Board for Lowering Blood Pressure

The study in question is a meta-analysis of more than 270 studies conducted around the world and involving 16,000 volunteers. All have in common to determine the benefits of different types of exercise on hypertension. The practices are varied and include aerobics, HIIT sessions (High Intensity Interval Training) but also dynamic resistance or yoga.

It appears from the study that all of these activities are beneficial in reducing tension. However, 2 exercises in particular have caught the attention of specialists.

The first are the “seated on the wall”, also known as the chair exercise. This involves mimicking sitting in a chair but keeping your back straight once morest a wall. While the second is the famous plank exercisewell known to cladding enthusiasts.

However, these exercises have the common point of being so-called isometric exercises. Exercises that require contracting a muscle and keeping it in that position for as long as possible are designated as such.

Exercises “to be revised” according to the researchers

Researchers have noticed that this type of exercise helps reduce systolic and diastolic blood pressure at rest. It is also the most effective of all the exercises analyzed. Nevertheless, the researchers have a small reservation. Indeed, it is stated in the study that the exercises studied refer to old recommendations.

However, the progress made in sport but also in the study of tension means that these results can be improved. The researchers would therefore like to update the data by analyzing new exercises.
