Faced with the constant complaint of the shortage of medicines that is still present in the country, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador provided figures from the alleged drug mafia that operated in the previous six-year term.

When heading his traditional morning conference, the Mexican president assured that during the administration of his predecessor, the budget of the Health Sector was stolen. According to the president, there were more than 2 million pesos between medicine and hospital equipment.

The Tabasco politician showed a table with figures of the alleged fraud, where he showed that 80% of the medicines were sold only to 10 companies.

In addition, when questioned regarding the lack of medicines, he insisted that the whole problem comes from behind and is the fault of the “conservatives.”

“Yes, there may be, but it has to do with this. Before, the media did not talk regarding how they not only stole the money but also adulterated the medicines. There were deaths.”

From the National Palace, he presented a table where the companies that were hired in the six-year term led by former President Enrique Peña Nieto (2012-2018) and the figures of the disbursement that was made for the purchase of medicines were exhibited.

According to the scheme called supplier analysis, at least 10 companies concentrate 79.6% of the spending that corresponds to the acquisition of drugs during that period.

According to the breakdown, a total expense of 303 million pesos is reported. “This is spending, it does not mean that the medicines existed,” López Obrador said.
