Statistics issued by the Assad Ministry of Health reveal an increase in deaths and the number of people with strokes and myocardial infarctions among young people, as a result of the exacerbating psychological and living pressures that have burdened them, with the darkening of the economic scene and the absence of a political solution horizon that heralds more suffering from all directions.

According to the Director General of the Heart Surgery Hospital in Damascus, Hossam Khader, the number of open-heart surgeries and catheterizations has exceeded the normal rate over the past few years, as the hospital performs between 1,750 and 2,000 open-heart surgeries, and between 4,000 and 5,000 cardiac catheterizations annually.

He pointed out that regarding 50 percent of the total operations performed by the hospital staff are for young patients under the age of thirty, which confirms the increasing psychological pressures and accumulated disorders facing this group.

Sudden death creeps into the young

And while it seems that such “concerns that mountains cannot bear” have become a reality in a society that is classified among the poorest, according to United Nations institutions, heart diseases among young people have turned into ailments that are no different from other diseases, except for the high cost of treatment and death rates.

As Doctor Yasser talks regarding the areas under Assad’s control, that the numbers recently issued are limited to Damascus Hospital only, while the total number of patients who underwent operations or treatment is much higher, stressing the need for all medical and non-medical agencies to intervene to develop solutions that contribute to reducing the rates of disease that threatens generations. coming.

The growing rates of strokes among young people is due to the difficult life conditions and harsh living conditions that people face, and make them ignore the symptoms, as most of them discover strokes, of different types and location in the body, following a time has passed since their occurrence.

The regions of Assad are experiencing an unprecedented economic decline that has reached the stage of hyperinflation, with the exchange rate reaching record numbers exceeding 13 thousand pounds per dollar, which made the majority of civilians unable to buy the most basic commodities, in addition to the lack of services that increased the burdens of providing them and strained the pockets of the people.

The doctor says: The disease creeping towards the youth segment is due to the complex causes of the psychological factor produced by the living conditions and the war, such as heavy smoking, constant anxiety, fear, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder, as well as malnutrition, increased consumption of unhealthy meals, and dependence on poor materials in cooking. due to economic conditions.

different clots

This is confirmed, according to Dr. Yasser, by the increase in the number of people with a migratory heartbeat, which poses a great danger if it is strong or continuous and its symptoms are ignored, and thus the deterioration of the health condition that leads to sudden cardiac arrest, in addition to cardiovascular diseases and the broken heart syndrome, and these types occur Often as a result of psychological disorders and increased anxiety and constant tension, in addition to the traditional strokes caused by clogged arteries due to smoking and high fat content, as well as sudden strokes caused by severe psychological trauma, and girls are often the most victims.

And he points out that the risk of this disease does not depend on the patient only, as it may turn into a genetic factor that affects future generations, through the transfer of the patient’s defective arteries to his children, and thus the rate of infection in society increases dramatically.

The continued deterioration of living conditions portends a disaster

In turn, cardiologist Hamza Marouh confirms in his interview with Orient that the continued deterioration of the economic and social situation increases the incidence of strokes and heart diseases, which have become effectively linked to the improvement of the population’s condition, which contributes to clarity of mind and directing young people to exercise, moderation of their meals, and their ability to follow Diets and stay away from cholesterol.

He also says: In general, strokes have begun to affect young people at an early age, due to economic pressures and living conditions, as well as lack of movement and dependence on unhealthy meals saturated with fat.

Stroke treatment cost

However, clots no longer represent the essence of the crisis for the population, as far as the cost of treatment, as the cost of a doctor’s visit ranges between 20,000 and 60,000 Syrian pounds, in addition to the amount of planning and advanced examination, such as MRI and CT, which often amounts to more than one million pounds.

According to local sources, most of the hospitals specializing in heart surgery in Assad regions, such as the always disabled valorant, Damascus Hospital and others, refuse to receive patients unless there is a strong “wasta”, forcing a large number of patients to perform operations in private hospitals.

The cost of undergoing an MRI and CT scan ranges between 600 and 800 thousand Syrian pounds in private clinics, while the cost of cardiac catheterization is more than 12 million Syrian pounds.

It is possible to see the extent of the suffering that the residents of the Assad regions have reached by comparing these figures with the average wages, which do not exceed 110,000 Syrian pounds per month, an amount that is not sufficient to cover medical prescriptions, especially with the high value of heart medicines, if available.

It seems that the economic repercussions and the collapse of the living reality in light of the shrinking job opportunities that increased the gloominess of the future for a wide segment of young people, with the blockage of escape routes to countries abroad, are no longer limited to their traditional effects following they reached stages difficult to deal with, and their results began to appear on The youth, who have shouldered great responsibilities, are supposed to actually fall on the shoulders of the Assad government, which spares no effort to evade them.
