The reason is simple: when we wake up, our body naturally secretes a large quantity of cortisol – the so-called stress hormone – which puts us on alert and sharpens our vigilance”, explains Frédéric Saldmann, specialist in health prevention, in Le Parisien.

Coffee cortisol levels fall at the same time as that of caffeine in the body, so you feel a double hit of softness. According to him, “therefore duplicates cortisol” and can cause nervousness, sweating and anxiety.

To conclude, the specialist recommends robusta coffee, which contains twice as much caffeine as arabica. It is stronger and more bitter, but contains more chlorogenic acid, an antioxidant. However, “according to several scientific studies, arabica coffee can improve memory, attention and concentration, which is not the case with robusta”.
