A month and especially 1.5 million kilometers following its takeoff on July 1, 2023, the Euclid space telescope has arrived at its destination. The European Space Agency (ESA) released on July 31, 2023 the first images obtained from the Lagrange L2 point, where it will conduct its observation mission. “The first remarkable images obtained [par Euclid] open a new era for observational cosmology and statistical astronomy. They mark the beginning of the quest for the very nature of dark energy,” says Yannick Mellier, head of the Euclid consortium, which will use the data from the telescope, in a press release.
