Christopher W. Hodges Takes Over as US Consul General in Chennai: Strengthening US-India Relations in South India

Chennai: Christopher W. Hodges takes over as the new US Consul General in Chennai. Christopher W. said that he sees it as an honor to represent the US in South India and that his activities will foster a broader bilateral relationship between the two countries. Hodges said.

“It is an honor to be able to support the extensive US citizen community within the Chennai consulate and the consular services that strengthen the relationship between the people of the two countries. Relations will be strengthened in the states of Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu under the jurisdiction of the Chennai Consulate and in the Union Territories of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep and Puducherry,” explained Christopher.

Christopher Hodges was working as a senior adviser in the US government’s Office of the Coordinator for Afghan Relocation Efforts (CARE). He served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Assistance Coordination and Press and Public Diplomacy in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs and as Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Department of Israeli-Palestinian Affairs. Christopher’s last overseas assignment was as Assistant Deputy Chief of Mission and Chief of the Palestine Affairs Unit at the US Embassy in Jerusalem.

Joining the US Foreign Service in 2000, Christopher has served as a public affairs officer in Jerusalem, Hanoi, Vietnam, and Accra, Ghana, and as a deputy director for Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein in the Office of Central European Affairs. He has also served in Suva, Fiji and Frankfurt, Germany.
