California DMV Launches Mobile Driver License (MDL) Pilot Program for Convenient and Secure Digital IDs

The California DMV is currently testing a mobile app that will allow Californians to upload their driver’s license or ID to their phones.

The DMV Mobile Driver License (MDL) pilot program currently includes more than 2,000 participants who are actively using the service and providing feedback.

The DMV’s media relations office told Telemundo 52 that the group of pilot participants will expand in the coming weeks before a broader public launch.

“The mobile driver’s license will be available in a DMV wallet on your smartphone as an easy, secure and convenient companion ID to your physical card,” said Anita Gore, Assistant Director of Public Affairs for the Department of Media Relations’ Office. DMV.

Currently, the only states that have implemented the digital card are Arizona, Colorado, Louisiana, Mississippi, Georgia, Hawaii, Ohio, Utah, and Maryland.

TSA is one of the agencies that collaborates with various DMVs across the country to provide passengers with a faster and easier way to travel.

“As the TSA continues to integrate new technologies for a faster and easier travel experience, we have collaborated on several innovative digital identity initiatives, which work in lieu of a physical ID or boarding pass,” the official website stated. from the TSA.

The California MDL is only accepted at select international airports, including San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Jose, and 26 other airports across the country.

According to the DMV, select businesses that use the TruAge identification they can also use the MDL to verify the ages of their customers.

“Since not everyone accepts an MDL yet, customers must also bring their physical card. DMV continues to work with interested groups to encourage acceptance of the MDL,” Gore said.

The DMV also said that the MDL will only share necessary and selective information to enable additional privacy protections for Californians.
