Pedro, Flamengo’s star striker, denounced a physical attack he allegedly suffered on Sunday from Pablo Fernandez, physical trainer of the team coached by Argentinian Jorge Sampaoli, a scandal which according to the Brazilian press weakens the post of the latter.
The facts would have occurred following a match of the Brazilian Championship on the ground of Atletico Mineiro. Flamengo had on this occasion climbed to second place in the championship by winning 2-1.
The incident reportedly took place in the locker room following the meeting between Pablo Fernandez, Argentine physical trainer for the Brazilian club, and striker Pedro.
“Cowardly and for no reason I received a punch in the face from Pablo Fernandez”, assured Pedro in a message posted on his Instagram account. “I endured a lot of cowardice at Flamengo, but never anything comparable”, added the player, who participated with the Seleçao in the World Cup in Qatar.
The attacker filed a complaint
Pedro filed a complaint at a Minas Gerais state police station, where Fernandez was questioned.
Pablo Fernandez had already hit a Nice supporter in the French Championship in August 2021 when he was assistant to Sampaoli at OM. He was suspended until the end of the season. He had left his bench to go and address a right hook in the glottis of a “supporter”, knocked out on the spot and who had spent a few hours in the hospital.
Sampaoli mentioned to him “an awful night” pour “Pablo and Pedro” and felt that the only solution was “dialogue”.
“I haven’t slept thinking how to help Pedro and Pablo (…). Whatever happens, we have to take care of ourselves. We have to unite. Be better”, added the Argentine coach, who passed through Olympique de Marseille (2021-2022).
With this victory Flamengo took second place in the Brazilian championship, nine points behind leaders Botafogo, who also have one game less.
