Stuart Broad: The Legendary Bowler’s Epic Farewell and Unmatched Legacy

2023-08-01 03:08:51

English star pacer Stuart Broad ended his sixteen-year long cricket career in a dreamlike manner. Broad, who had announced his retirement from the field following the fifth Ashes Test once morest Australia at The Oval, took the team’s winning wicket in the final session on the fifth day. Broad ended his career by dismissing Alex Carey, who stood between England and victory.

Not only did he get a wicket on the last ball of his career, Broad made the game complete by hitting the last ball he faced for a six. Broad was hitting Mitchell Starc’s bouncer for a boundary. And so the prodigious talent returned from the field with a prodigious performance.

Potential for massive returns

The 2007 Twenty20 World Cup has never been forgotten and will never be forgotten. The 6 sixes hit by Yuvraj Singh in one over of Broad are still in the memories of cricket lovers. Any bowler must be mentally exhausted. A career-ending moment for any bowler. But from there the broad took off like a phoenix.

Excellence in batting

The cricketing world has always celebrated only one bowler named Broad. But Broad is also a batsman capable of turning the tide of the match at the tail end. Broad has 13 fifties and 3662 runs in his Test career, including a century (169) once morest Pakistan in 2010.

Anderson’s pair

Broad went down to the ground the other day holding Anderson, who has been shoulder to shoulder with him in his 16-year long international cricket career. Australian players welcomed Broad with a guard of honour. Andersen watched with a grin as Broad walked between them.

With 1037 wickets, they hold the record for the highest wicket-taking bowling pair in Test cricket. Anderson and Broad controlled the pace attack of the England cricket team for more than a decade. Anderson holds the record for the most wickets taken by an English bowler in Test cricket with 682 wickets while Broad is second. Both of them also own the record of pace bowlers who have taken 600 wickets in Test cricket.

A self-correcting genius

Prior to 2015, Broad had taken 71 wickets once morest left-handers at an average of 41.11. But extensive research before that summer’s Ashes series led him to change his default angle over the wicket. Since 2015, he has dismissed 122 left-handers at 24.85. Broad always tried to improve his bowling by making self-corrections and succeeded in doing so.

Earlier, Broad’s bowling had more balls left by the batsmen. But Broad realized this and made some changes. This change can be seen just by playing the last day of the final match. Out of 88 balls bowled by Broad, the Australian batsmen left only seven balls.

Finding a replacement is difficult

England may be able to compensate to some extent for the lack of a bowler named Broad through the likes of Ollie Robinson and Josh Tongue. But it will not be easy for them to find a replacement for a batsman like Broad who can turn the tide of the game by coming out in the ninth or tenth.
