A mother from the Netherlands has decided to issue a warning to parents by revealing that her son managed to have an AK-47 assault rifle delivered to the house when he was only eight years old, reports the Daily Mail.
Barbara Gemen recounted the feeling of horror she felt when the gun arrived on her doorstep.
Her son was “very, very excited” to have managed to get the package, which had passed through Poland and Bulgaria to avoid going through customs.
“I think he spent a month trying to figure out how to order the gun and get it delivered to the house,” says Barbara Gemen.
The terrified mother nevertheless handed over the weapon to the police, who did not take action.
“It looks like something out of a movie, but I was shocked to learn that my eight-year-old son had taken steps to become a cyberhacker, a path that was paved with alarming choices and long-term consequences,” explains Ms Gemen.
The latter has since quit her job as a human resources specialist and is campaigning to help children who fall into cybercrime.
“It’s so easy these days, because a lot of kids have laptops, smart phones, and can do hacking with just a few clicks,” says Barbara Gemen.
