As the championship resumes on August 11, the CSSA can hope to return to National 1. The CNOSF gave a favorable opinion on Monday July 31 to the recovery project. But this opinion is only advisory. A passage in front of the DNCG is scheduled for Thursday.

Thursday, July 27, a conciliation hearing was held at the headquarters of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF). The decision had been reserved. It was unveiled this Monday, July 31: the CNOSF gives a favorable opinion on maintaining the club in National.

The decision of the CNOSF is an important step, but the opinion given on Monday is only advisory. The club must wait for the green light from the National Directorate of Management Control (DNCG), the financial policeman of French football. Investors are due to be heard on Thursday August 3.

But Francis Roumy, the former president of the club in the maneuver to organize the takeover of the CSSA, is hopeful that the financial file will be accepted.

Sedan ended the 2022-2023 season in seventh place in National 1. But the club’s financial difficulties forced it into administrative relegation. Initially, the club was to evolve in National 2. But on appeal, the DNCG had announced the exclusion of the club from all national championships.

Following this, several investors came to the rescue of the club to build a more financially solid case and change the minds of the authorities by presenting guarantees. Lawmakers also showed their support. The PS mayor of Sedan Didier Herbillon and the various right-wing deputy of the Ardennes Jean-Luc Warsmann were thus present before the CNOSF on Thursday to defend the takeover project carried out in particular by Guy Cotret.
