Anne-Cécile Vain and Alliny Ferrera-Naves make eco-responsible soaps in their Savonnerie Circulaire. To make them, they recycle frying oils directly from restaurants. A column in partnership with ToulÉco Montpellier.

Anne-Cécile Vain and Alliny Ferrera-Naves met thanks to a common idea: recycle edible oils to make soaps. “Alliny’s grandmother was already using this technique in Brazil. It was my brother who gave me a book on soap making and I wanted to get started” explains Anne-Cécile. The two entrepreneurs therefore created their soap factory in July 2022 with their manufacturing workshop Montpellier.

60 liters per month

With an electric pick-up bike, Anne-Cécile and Alliny travel through the city center of Montpellier to collect oils from restaurants. They currently work with four establishments and harvest 60 liters of different oils per month. “After making our mixtures, we let it rest for four weeks, this is called cold saponification. A less energy-intensive technique” explains Anne-Cécile. The young women then make cleaning products. They offer a multi-surface soap, a cleaner and soon solid dish soaps.

Free from products harmful to health and the environment (palm and coconut oil): you can do your cleaning without risk to nature, users and pets. The company is under the statutes of a cooperative production company (Scop) and is part of the Social and Solidarity Economy. The premises are located within the business incubator of the Réalis cluster in Montpellier.

Finance the equipment

To finance their project, the two friends launched a crowdfunding campaign. They hope to raise nearly 18,000 euros. Each donation to the soap factory has its share of surprises in store: solid dishes, liquid soap for floors and surfaces, handmade zero-waste sponges, and even a soap-making workshop. The money collected will be used to subsidize the bicycle, the equipment for cutting solid dishes and the tanks for making liquid soaps.
