Faced with an unprecedented heat wave, Tunisia – which, like its Mediterranean neighbours, is under a heat dome – has been living for some days to the rhythm of water and electricity cuts. At their peaks, temperatures reached almost 50 degrees, and their consequences are already beginning to be felt on the fragile economy of the land of Jasmine.

Responsible for extreme temperatures, the heat dome boosts sales of air conditioners, while accelerating tensions on the electricity networks due to the increase in demand. To relieve the network and contain the crisis, the Tunisian Electricity and Gas Company (STEG) was forced to intervene urgently with electrical load shedding running at certain times.
