Samsung has the upper hand in the foldable market and intends to maintain its lead. After revealing the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold this week during the Unpacked event in South Korea, the company said it expects a 50% increase in 2023 compared to last year.
The South Korean says that the popularity of foldable phones will bring impressive results and is confident that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will help it achieve this goal.
At a conference in Seoul, the head of Samsung’s mobile division, TM Roh, revealed that South Korean folding sales in 2022 were close to 10 million units. Of the total, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 accounted for 60% of the models sold, while the Galaxy Z Fold 4 accounted for 40%.
According to estimates by market analysis companies IDC and TrendForce, the foldable segment should reach 20 million units in 2023. Taking forecasts into account, Samsung expects the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 to register 15 million devices sold, corresponding to a 75% share of the folding market.
Roh expects the Galaxy Z Flip 5 to achieve excellent results in 2023, particularly in South Korea. He stresses that the focus of the South Korean company is to popularize devices in this segment and attract more consumers to exchange traditional cell phones for folding ones.
