After the departure of Bob Myers, the Warriors continue their internal reorganization. Mike Dunleavy Jr. has already been promoted to General Manager of the franchise. Today it’s Chuck Hayes’ turn to strengthen the Dubs. He arrives as director of basketball operations.
Oh look at a face we had lost sight of! Passed in the NBA between 2005 and 2016, Chuck Hayes signs a return to the fore but in the offices this time. While working in the scouting department of the Rockets (a franchise for which he wore the colors for 7 years) since 2017, the former pivot will make a new start.
According to Danielle Lerner of Houston Chronicle, Chuck Hayes has indeed agreed to become the new director of basketball operations for the Warriors. The latter would also have revealed that his new role will include scouting missions, whether at the professional or university level, but also responsibilities in relation to the decisions of trade and Free Agency of the franchise.
With Dunleavy Jr. and now Hayes, Golden State is giving pride of place to former players who passed on the other side of the desk. This arrival at the Chase Center should not disorient Chuck Hayes beyond measure since he is a native of San Leandro, a city located south of Oakland. We just hope his new role as director of basketball operations doesn’t include assisting Stephen Curry with free throws. A little reminder for those who don’t have the reference.
