South Korea before the World Cup – Morocco celebrates historic success

South Korea’s soccer players are on the brink of extinction at the World Cup. The Asians lost 0-1 (0-1) in Group H on Sunday once morest World Cup newcomers Morocco, who celebrated their historic first success in a women’s finals. In the 6th minute, Ibtissam Jraïdi scored the lead in front of 12,886 spectators in Adelaide. The Moroccans saved their chance to reach the round of 16. Morocco’s defender Nouhaila Benzina (25) was the first footballer to wear a hijab at a World Cup.

South Korea, Germany’s opponent in the last preliminary round on Thursday (12:00 noon/CEST), lost the opening game 2-0 to Colombia. Morocco lost 6-0 to Germany. On Sunday from 11.30 a.m. in Sydney the game between Germany and Colombia was still on the program (live on ORF 1).

Morocco defender Benzina also made a debut. A ban by world football’s governing body FIFA on wearing a religious hat at games it directs for “health and safety reasons” was lifted in 2014 following protests by activists, athletes, government and football officials.
