The renowned actor Sergio Hernandez analyzed the past and present of Chilean soap operas, particularly TVN, where he shone with various characters more than 20 years ago.

“I have worked on many soap operas, on all channels, and especially on TVN during the golden age,” recalled the interpreter.

Likewise, he recognized that “what is interesting regarding that time is that the soap operas were spread across Chile with the different problems of the regions where they were made; the salmon in Chiloé, the problem of Easter Island, the problem with the gypsies in the north. It was interesting because it rescued the regions, the peoples”.

The decline of soap operas

in dialogue with Not News, Hernández also revealed the reason behind the decline of TVN soap operas: “When we made Iorana, the TVN producer told me that US$4 million had been spent and US$30 had come in as net profit. So when I see that TVN building, when I see what TVN achieved through these soap operas, I say ‘wow, they did well’”.

However, he explained that “suddenly they said, following El circo de las Montini, that they found it very expensive to go out and make soap operas across the country, so they began to make soap operas in the studio, with the usual problems, with the stories we already know.
