Foreign tourists are indeed back in France. This is confirmed by figures from the Ministry of Tourism, the Tourism Development Agency and the National Federation of Tourism. Holidaymakers from Northern Europe, Canada and the United States are particularly numerous this year.

The first tourism trends for the year 2023 have fallen and are rather encouraging. After exceptional months of May and June, July confirms the trend, according to the Ministry in charge of Tourism, the Tourism Development Agency and the National Tourism Federation.

Fewer Asian tourists

This is notably due to the return of foreign tourists. A real satisfaction for professionals in the sector, but which remains unequal according to nationality. “We note in particular a 5% increase in international attendance at campsites, driven in particular by Northern Europe, Belgium, Germany”, details Hugo Alvarez, of Atout France, a public agency for tourism development. We also have very good figures for Canada and the United States, which will have attendance roughly similar to 2022, which is excellent. For the Asian clientele, we have not returned to the beautiful days, but in any case, we finally have the signs of an opening of the bridges between these countries and France.

The hotel sector is also in the green with 74% occupancy rate this month, similar to last year. But the destinations are no longer the same. Hotels in the North have seen more influxes of guests than those in the South compared to 2022. Another change: fewer of them left in July this year. Two-thirds of them now favor the months of August and September.
