In 2020, the owner of Pohang’s rice porridge restaurant, who appeared on SBS ‘Baek Jong-won’s Alley Restaurant’ and drew attention, obtained the trademark right following a plagiarism controversy.
On the 28th, Minah Choi, the owner of Pohang’s rice porridge restaurant, announced the news of the application for the trademark, which she had acquired in three years, through Instagram.
Mr. Choi said, “Finally, the trademark application came out. Thanks to the long wait of 3 years and the help of many people, the trademark registration certificate finally came to me.”
He said, “The trademark rights that I failed to prepare due to my ignorance became an unbearable result due to belated regret, but I was able to find it with a lot of time and help from many people.” I sincerely thank you,” he said.
Then he added, “I sincerely thank many unknown people who called the Korean Intellectual Property Office, left a message, visited me and stood by my side.”
Mr. Choi devoted himself to researching recipes in 2020 and developed a menu called ‘Deopjuk’, which received rave reviews from Baek Jong-won. However, following the broadcast, there were people who took the trademark of ‘Deopjuk’ and applied to the Korean Intellectual Property Office, resulting in a legal dispute.
In October 2021, when the plagiarism controversy arose, Baek Jong-won revisited Pohang’s ‘Deopjukjip’ with the SBS production team and tried to solve the problem by meeting with a patent attorney and visiting the Korean Intellectual Property Office, saying, “We must set a good precedent.”
