Vision Pro Developer Kit Requires Several Security Measures

Earlier this week, the long-awaited developer kit for Apple Vision Prowhich means that the Apple headset will soon be in the hands of some people.

Apple, however, will not send the device without first defining some parameters, both so that developers receive a tailored model, as well as to avoid possible leaks and maintain the safety of the device — following all, we are talking regarding a product of US$3.500.

In that sense, developers who are chosen to receive a kit are asked to fill out a form and use an app that determines the size of accessories like the headband and light seal. Furthermore, they must also inform whether or not they wear glasses, so the lenses will be sent directly from ZEISS to the developer, according to journalist Mark Gurman, from Bloomberg.

Here is the form a developer will need to fill out when approved for a Vision Pro dev kit + the Measure and Fit app which uses the camera to determine headband and light seal size. The lenses will come directly from Zeiss.

Once developers have the headset in hand, however, they must continue to follow strict guidelines. More precisely, the device is bound by a strict contract that outlines all the things developers must do to prevent developer kits from being kept safe.

You agree that all access, use, and storage of the Developer Kit will occur in a private, secure workspace accessible only by you and your authorized developers (e.g., fully enclosed with solid doors, floors, walls, and ceiling, and locks when developer kit is in use). You must ensure that unauthorized persons (including family, friends, roommates or domestic servants) do not access, view, manipulate or use the Developer Kit.

When in use, the developer kit must be under your positive control (either on your person or within your direct line of sight) at all times. You should ensure that the developer kit is password protected and never leave it unattended. When not in use, turn off the developer kit and store it in its locked Pelican case in a space only you have access to (for example, a bedroom, closet, safe, or locked drawer).

The Developer Kit may not be moved or removed from its shipping address by you or your authorized developers without Apple’s prior written consent. If you are away from your workspace for more than 10 days, consult your Apple point of contact regarding keeping your developer kit safe while you are away. You agree to restrict access to the Developer Kit to yourself and your authorized developers and to take all reasonable precautions to protect the Developer Kit from loss or theft.

As seen by MacRumorsinformation on the Apple website also mentions how to unpair a AirTag when returning a kit, which suggests the company will use its tracker to track the headset’s location.

While Apple is already accepting submissions for the kit, there’s still no word on whether any developers have had their application approved. So it’s still unclear when the developer kits will be distributed.
