This year’s theater project by Wolfgang Aistleitner and the Kulturforum Bad Zell is in the midst of rehearsals. As with the large-scale production of the last witch trial in the Mühlviertel, this time the focus is on an oppressive and touching image of the past.
The piece “The Robber Murderer Grasel. And the Rest of the Family” asks the question “why”: Why did Johann Georg Grasel develop into a criminal? Why not his sister too? Who is to blame? Was it preventable? The processing of the life story of Johann Georg Grasel, who – guided by his father – learned the trade of robbers at a young age and operated it so busily, murderously and subtly that the authorities only following a long hunt and only was able to get hold of by means of a ruse.
His short life of criminal energy ended at the age of 28 on the gallows. On the other hand, his sister did not want to risk such a fate and left her family past behind. Two allegorical figures follow and comment on what is happening, thus stimulating reflection.
The premiere of the historical piece is on September 15th in the Arena Bad Zell. The game will also be played on September 16, 17, 22, 23, 24, 29 and 30.
