The Citroën Ami is a compact and urban electric vehicle that will arrive in Brazil in 2022. At just 2.41 meters long and 8.5 horsepower, the cart can be driven by people aged 14 and over in Europe, without the need to driving license. In Brazil, however, it will be classified as a quadricycle and will require a type A CNH.
The Ami has a range of 75 km and can be recharged at an ordinary outlet in regarding three hours. It reaches a top speed of 45 km/h and offers space for two occupants. The design is friendly and minimalist, with asymmetrical doors and fixed glass. The panel is simple and has a cell phone support, which works as a multimedia center.
It has extremely compact dimensions measuring only 2.4 m in length and 1.4 m in width and can carry up to two people comfortably, but without space for a trunk or some resources considered as the “dignity kit” for Brazilians, leaving side the air conditioning and airbags.
Although it confirmed the launch of this car in Brazil, the French manufacturer faces some problems to regulate the Ami in the national territory. This obstacle happens due to some inconsistencies in the Brazilian legislation that make it difficult to fit the minicar according to the current rules of the National Traffic Council (Contran).
As the vice-president of the brand in South America, Vanessa Castanho, explained to Quatro Rodas magazine, Brazil’s legal security is a factor that might make it impossible to advertise the Citroën Ami in Tupiniquin lands. Its technical file fits Contran Resolution 573 classifying it as a quadricycle and requiring CNH B.
In addition, the vehicle may have its circulation restricted on highways with speeds above 90 km/h, as the CTB determines that the minimum circulation speed is equivalent to 50% of the maximum allowed.
The price of the Ami has not yet been disclosed by Citroën, but in Europe it costs around 6,000 euros, equivalent to R$ 37,000 at current prices. The French brand bets on the stroller as a sustainable and accessible alternative for urban mobility, especially for the young and cool public.
