An old user on the Twitter platform, which is now known as “X”, gave up his username (Username), which consists of only the letter “x”, in favor of the company.
The user revealed in a press interview that Twitter (X) offered him several alternative names (UserNim) and free goods in exchange for abandoning the account.
This user is Jin X Huang, a founding partner of Orange Photography.
He told Mashable in an interview published on Wednesday that he had expected Twitter (X) to contact him regarding the matter.
“I received an email basically telling me that the company is going to take my username,” Huang told the media, noting that the email came from a generic address, [email protected], and not from a specific employee of the company.
Huang, who has been using username on the platform for more than 16 years, said the company offered him alternatives to keep his account active. She also offered him a new username of his choice.

“Everything is fine,” Huang posted online on Wednesday, debuting using his new username x12345678998765.
While he did not receive financial compensation, Huang said that Twitter had already offered him “some business services and to meet with the management.”
On Sunday, the new owner of Twitter, Elon Musk, announced the change of the platform’s name to “X”. As part of the switch, Musk changed his avatar to the X logo and the company dropped the well-known sparrow logo.
Twitter, which Musk officially bought last October, has undergone a slew of changes in the past months, including limiting the number of direct messages a user can send and the number of tweets they can see.
The platform faces new competition from Facebook owner Meta, which recently launched Threads as a competitor to Twitter. The Chinese-owned TikTok app also announced a new text feature on its platform earlier this week.
