O MLS Season Pass recorded an audience record for the matches that took place between 19 and 26 July. Interestingly, these dates mark the debut of the football icon, Lionel Messiby Inter Miami.

The company, of course, did not attribute the increase in audience to the arrival of the star player, but the timing suggests a connection. Of the three most watched matches, only one did not have Messi playing, which indicates that Major League Soccer (MLS) is attracting a larger audience.

The distribution of the audience during the games was balanced between the broadcasts in English and Spanish, according to 9to5Mac. Remember that the MLS Season Pass offers broadcasts in English, Spanish and French — the last one, only Canadian teams play.

Although Apple keeps the exact numbers of subscribers and audience secret, recent data released by Sports Business Journal suggest that the service is close to reaching the 1 million subscribers.

Still, Apple’s lack of transparency regarding this data has caused discomfort among team executives, as well as pointed out by 9to5Mac. Despite this, the growing popularity of the MLS and the increase in subscribers indicate a promising future for the partnership with Apple.

The company, as we know, has a ten-year contract with the MLS, which guarantees exclusive rights to broadcast all games through the Apple TV app. The service, which is available in over 100 countries, would have cost Apple around $250 million by season.
