President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi participated today, Thursday, in St. Petersburg, in a working lunch with Russian President Vladimir Putin, along with African heads of state and government from the heads of various African economic groupings.
The official spokesperson for the Presidency of the Republic stated that President El-Sisi participated in this event as the current head of the African Union Development Agency (NEPAD), which represents the development arm of the Union, especially with regard to mobilizing financial resources that enable the implementation of the pioneering continental projects of Africa’s Development Agenda 2063, as well as On strengthening existing efforts to achieve continental integration, including the Continental Free Trade Agreement, in addition to supporting initiatives aimed at developing development in Africa, especially infrastructure projects and industrial transformation.
The President reviewed the Egyptian vision for the priorities of the African-Russian partnership, as follows:
First: Enhancing peace and security on the continent, in light of Egypt’s keenness to support African capabilities in this regard, including by activating Egypt’s leadership in the post-conflict reconstruction and development file at the level of the African Union, in the framework of which Cairo hosts the Center for Reconstruction and Development, in addition to preserving The periodicity of the Aswan Forum for Peace, Security and Sustainable Development as an important and main discussion platform.
Second: Egypt is aware of the depth of the link between development on the one hand and building and sustaining peace on the other hand. Therefore, Egypt, within the framework of assuming the presidency of the NEPAD Committee during the next two years, is keen to advance the implementation of the program to activate the link between peace, security and development, as well as to intensify efforts to mobilize resources for investment in infrastructure and continental interconnection projects.
Third: Enhancing the continent’s capabilities to achieve its food security by finding solutions to provide food, fertilizers, agricultural technology, and the necessary financing mechanisms for it.
Fourth: Facing the challenges of climate change and taking serious and sincere steps towards providing the necessary financing to support African countries in their related endeavors.
