Dammam ∙ The former Saudi expatriate Malayali, who returned from performing Hajj, was entangled in a case fifteen years ago. Eight years ago, a 61-year-old Malayali who returned home from Saudi Arabia was caught in an old case at the airport. He came with a private Hajj group and was accompanied by his wife, sister-in-law and other relatives for Hajj. Landing in Jeddah had no difficulty.

He came to know regarding the case when he arrived at the airport with his family to return following completing Hajj.

When I arrived at the Jeddah airport immigration, I was told that I might not go home and I was instructed to contact the passport department. It is reported that a case is pending once morest him at the Shamalia Police Station in Dammam and he will be allowed to return home only following it is resolved.

His wife and relatives who were with him were sent back home. Then he reached Dammam. He worked in Dammam Toyota vegetable market for 30 years. He returned home following ending his exile 8 years ago.

The only thing I remember was a small fight with a Syrian while working, six or seven years before returning home on the final exit. He said that there were no other problems or violations before or following that.

On that day, he had to go to the police station because of that incident, but he resolved the problem with the Syrian citizen and went back. After that incident, he has gone to the country and returned many times. He said that there was no obstacle at that time.

He sought the help of Manikuttan Padmanabhan, a philanthropic volunteer and social worker at the Indian Embassy in Dammam.

When both of them reached the Dammam Shamalia police station and inquired, they came to know that he has been sentenced to imprisonment. He remembers that on the day of the fight, a Nepali citizen was also in the police car when the police came and took him away on the complaint of the Syrian. The Nepali citizen was arrested by the police for smuggling liquor. He and the social workers think that his name may have been mistakenly written in the case involving a Nepali due to the mistake of the policemen among the registered cases.

Then the social activist tried to settle the case by contacting the Manikuttan police station, but got information that the law needs to be implemented. The following day, he was presented at the Deportation (Tarheel) Center and received a symbolic punishment and was spared a prison sentence as the law was enforced. Manikuttan, who came to help him, said that he was given a final exit from Tarheel.

As part of digitizing the old case files, the police tried to contact him over the phone regarding the case he was involved in at that time, but he had gone home. I think this is also the reason for getting involved in the pending case.

He also says that even if those involved in the case have gone to the country in the final exit, they should check the old case information and ensure that there are no obstacles or problems before arriving for Hajj, Umrah or visitor visa. Those who are going to the final exit will also get and keep the police clearance to avoid trouble. The Malayali will return home via the Dammam International Airport following the travel disruption has been removed due to the unexpected problems.
