The Spanish Government Allocates Over 2.1 Million Euros to Basque Country and Navarra for Medical Education Expansion

The Spanish Government will allocate more than 2.1 million euros to the Basque Country to increase the number of places in the 2023/2024 academic year, and another 516,000 euros to Navarra.

The Spanish Government will allocate more than 2.1 million euros to the Basque Country to increase 37 places in the Degree in Medicine in the 2023/2024 academic year, and another 516,000 euros to Navarra for another ten more places in the UPNA, with the aim of facilitating, in the long term, the availability of medical professionals as a partial means to address the deficit of health workers in certain specialties, as reported by the Ministry of Health.

The approved Royal Decree regulates the direct granting of subsidies, for a total amount of 52 million euros, aimed at financing the increase of 706 places in the Degree in Medicine in public universities in the next academic year.

It is also intended to improve the teaching quality of the Degree in Medicine and increase, in the medium term, the number of doctors graduated from Spanish universities to promote access to Specialized Health Training in the Medicine degree.

In addition, the long-term increase in the availability of medical professionals is facilitated as a partial measure once morest the deficit of health professionals in certain specialties.
