The General Directorate of the Central Military Hospital released the first public medical report of the Minister of Defense, Iván Velásquez, who was hospitalized since Friday, July 21, in that health institution attached to the Colombian Armed Forces.
The Hospital confirmed that Velásquez is receiving treatment to treat a urinary infection for which she had to be referred to that medical center five days ago, just following the Independence Day celebrations and the installation of Congress on July 20, events that summoned the entire cabinet of the Government of Gustavo Petro.
“Currently, he is under multidisciplinary medical treatment for a urinary tract infection, receiving parenteral antibiotic therapy; Given his adequate and satisfactory clinical evolution, he will be discharged in the next few hours, ”the Hospital detailed in a statement released by the Ministry of Defense.
The minister’s health situation came to light until Monday followingnoon (July 24) when the minister was already on his fourth day of hospitalization. Only when the news went viral did Velásquez’s portfolio publish a statement of just one page and three paragraphs detailing the official’s state of health.
What is known is that the minister did not travel to South Korea, nor did he participate in the commemoration of the Bicentennial of the National Navy, nor was he in a Security Council in Arauca due to his medical complications. Instead, he sent a message via Twitter joining the celebration of the Colombian naval forces.
“The Central Military Hospital will continue to provide comprehensive care and the accompaniment required for optimal recovery and well-being, respecting the privacy of the patient,” reads the letter regarding Iván Velásquez’s medical report.
