The president of BYD Brasil, Tyler Li, said that the Chinese automaker hopes to launch an entry-level electric vehicle in the domestic market soon for around 100,000, which might be even slightly below that value, which should be very competitive.
In an interview with the website Época Negócios, the executive said that the production of the brand’s cars in Brazil, which will happen at the former Ford facilities in Camaçari, Bahiaaims to pull the values even further down.
“We are trying to create a supply chain in Brazil to make vehicle prices more competitive. And so we will also be able to export cars to other countries in Latin America”, explained Tyler Li.
The electrification of vehicles is a topic that has dominated the automotive market and the Chinese BYD arrived making a lot of noise. the assembler announced an investment of BRL 3 billion to produce electric cars, buses and trucks in the country.
BYD displaced the Tesla of Elon Musk in July 2022, by becoming the largest electric vehicle manufacturer in the world. In fact, the brand started in Brazil in 2015, with a 100% electric bus assembly plant in Campinas, São Paulo.
please note that BYD recently released Dolphin, which should also be produced in Bahia. The car did well in sales and the automaker already plans the arrival of more options for the Brazilian automotive market, including a hybrid model with ethanol.
