The Lagardère group is trying to accelerate. Geoffroy Lejeune “will take over the effective editorial management” of the “Sunday Journal” from August 1, the owner of the newspaper said Monday evening, referring to a “break in negotiations” with the Society of Journalists (SDJ), on strike for more than a month. This announcement comes as the editorial staff of the “JDD” had, this weekend, massively renewed, until Tuesday morning, its strike once morest the arrival at its head of the journalist marked on the far right – he was so far at “Valeurs Actuelles”.

In a press release, the management of Lagardère News said it regretted “the position of the SDJ, which does not seem to have taken into account the overtures offered” and “led to a breakdown in negotiations, which is detrimental to both journalists and readers”. “I hope that we can now move forward to return the JDD to its readers,” wrote Arnaud Lagardère himself, promising that the weekly “will remain a generalist information publication, open to the general public and open to all currents of thought”: “We will not make the JDD an ideological tract or a militant newspaper. This fantasy of the extreme right is unfounded and contemptuous”.

” Flawless “

For its part, the editorial staff of the weekly reaffirmed its “unfailing mobilization” on Saturday in the face of a “total break with the identity of a 75-year-old newspaper”. The editorial staff reiterated its demands, remaining opposed to the arrival of Geoffroy Lejeune and demanding guarantees of legal and editorial independence.

Many see in this appointment the hand of billionaire Vincent Bolloré, whose Vivendi group must swallow Lagardère – owner of “JDD”, “Paris Match” and Europe 1 – following a successful takeover bid.

The situation of the “Journal du dimanche” recalls the strikes of Europe 1 in 2021 and of i-Télé (now CNews, owned by Vivendi) in 2016, each time concluded by mass departures. The last issue of the weekly dates back to June 18.
