[EN VIDÉO] Kezako: Could bioluminescence be used for everyday lighting? Some animals, plants and bacteria are capable of producing light. This…
A French amateur photographer managed to take a photo of bioluminescence on the beaches of Sarzeau in Brittany on July 9th. This phenomenon is very rare on French beaches, and taking a photo is quite an achievement as the appearance is so unpredictable.
On his Facebook page, Richard Jeune explains that he went to the scene following the publication of another photographer: “ I tried my luck at Pointe de Penvins and I was not disappointed. Not only was the electroluminescent phenomenon of phytoplankton present, and intense, and I had the added bonus of a beautiful Milky Way on my images. After the light pollution became low (no one left in the car park, restaurant closed and alone in the world on this beach) the site became a real firework display”. Bioluminescence is the production and emission of light by certain living organisms: fireflies for example, but also by phytoplankton present in the first 40 meters deep. Whenupwelling (cold water upwelling) occurs, the phytoplankton rise to the surface and begin to glow when tossed regarding by the waves.
