On Monday, the “Futurama” series, created by Matt Groening, the creator of the famous “The Simpsons” series, returns on the “Disney +” platform, following stopping its broadcast for ten years, at a stage when digital platforms are witnessing successes related to adult animated films and series.
Released in 1999, “Futurama” follows the adventures of Fry, a New York pizza delivery man who was frozen on New Year’s Eve 2000 only to wake up a thousand years later, in a world inhabited by robots and aliens, while poking fun at the failures of the 21st century.
In the ten new episodes that will be shown on a weekly basis, Fry, Leela, Bender and the various characters of the series confront the pandemic and the negatives of what is known as “binge watching” (excessive viewing of certain entertainment or media content) and the volatility of the digital currency Bitcoin.
In an interview reported by “Disney”, John DiMaggio, who plays Bender in the original version of the series, said, “The writers of the work always manage to keep up with current events, kind of like ‘The Simpsons’.”
And let the series “Futurama” be shown for a record time, similar to “The Simpsons”, despite the success it achieved at the level of critics or audiences.
The American Fox station stopped showing the series, which is of the science fiction genre, for the first time in 2003 following broadcasting four seasons of it, then it was re-displayed in the form of movies on “DVD” and then on the “Comedy Channel”, before it was stopped broadcasting once more in 2013.
In February 2022, Hulu, a subsidiary of Disney, which holds the rights to broadcast the series in the United States, announced the rerun of “Futurama” following a long hiatus.
