South African billionaire Elon Musk on Monday unveiled the new logo that will replace Twitter’s famous stylized blue bird: an X. The social network adopted the new logo shortly following its announcement.

Musk shared on his Twitter page, the social media platform that officially bought it in October last year, a short clip showing Twitter’s new logo.

Musk also changed his profile picture to the image of the new logo and added “X.com” to his bio on the social network. In a separate post he revealed that Twitter’s headquarters had been lit up the previous night with the “X” logo.

These new posts of his come following a day ago Musk has announced that he wants to change the Twitter logo and give up “all the birds” that are associated with the social network.

In a post made shortly following midnight, the billionaire said “if a good enough X logo is posted at night, we will introduce it globally tomorrow”. “And soon we will say goodbye to the twitter brand and, gradually, to all the birds,” added Elon Musk.

In April of this year, the blue bird was replaced, temporarily, with a dog from the Shiba Inu breed, the logo of the Dogecoin cryptocurrency, a replacement that helped to increase the market value of Dogecoin by up to four billion dollars.

Twitter’s website says the blue bird logo is “our most recognizable asset”, adding “that’s why we protect it so much”.

But American entrepreneur Steven Dengler recalled on Musk’s platform that in 1993 he co-founded a company called XE, which created a website and app for foreign exchange services, including exchange rate conversions.

“This was our logo from 1993 to 2007. It may look familiar,” he wrote.

Dengler also showed a .gif version of the logo:

“Our domain (xe dot com) is only one letter away from x dot com but I’m sure it’s just a ‘coincidence’ lol,” he wrote.

However, it is possible that Musk’s desired new name for Twitter is a reference to one of his children“X Æ A-Xii Musk,” the son he has with singer Grimes.
