If the toothpaste effectively cleans the teeth, the fluoride it contains represents a risk for children. But that might change.
From an early age, children learn to take care of their teeth to keep them healthy. This requires both good dietary practices and certain habits. The most common are go to the dentist regularly but also brush your teeth every day.
Specialists recommend brushing for 3 minutes 2 to 3 times a day. And to enhance the effectiveness of cleaning, the use of toothpaste is systematic. However, this product contains a compound that can cause poisoning if swallowed: fluorine. However, using less paste (although it reduces risk) can reduce cleaning effectiveness.
In order to correct this problem, a team of Polish researchers from the University of Medical Sciences is working on a revolutionary toothpaste. In fact, they developed a toothpaste recipe harmless to health and good for our teeth.
The new toothpaste compared to a “classic” version in a clinical trial
This revolutionary toothpaste was recently the subject of a study shared in the journal Frontiers in Public Health. And for this one, the scientists conducted a blind experiment.
Indeed, a panel of 171 adult volunteers was divided into two groups. The first used the recipe developed by Polish researchers to wash their teeth. While the second group used a standard toothpaste containing fluoride. Both groups were instructed to brush their teeth twice a day for 3 minutes.
Finally, every 6 months, the volunteers had a routine dental check-up. The objective was to check the effectiveness of the new toothpaste on cavities. However, following 18 months, they found that the new recipe was as effective as any fluoride product.
Fluoride replaced by a mineral naturally present in our body
This feat is made possible thanks to l’hydroxyapatite. If this name seems scary, it actually refers to a mineral that is usually found in the human skeleton. In addition to being harmless to the dental health of children, it allows strengthen the bones but also reduce the appearance of cavities. In fact, this product would be beneficial at any age and would guarantee good dental health, thus limiting the risk of dementia.
